Two Low-Cost Education/Business Laser Projectors Announced By Optoma

To meet the entry-level needs for a school or business, Optoma has released two new DLP laser projectors—the ZX300 and ZW350. They both have a rated brightness of 3,500 lumens and contrast ratio of 300,000:1.

Optoma’s DuraCore laser will last up to 30,000 hours in Eco mode and the IP6X certified optical engine (meaning it is dust tight) requires little to no maintenance over its lifetime. The projectors can be mounted in any 360-degree orientation, support portrait mode, and can be run 24/7 (although Optoma recommends the projector is turned off or put in standby mode for 30 minutes every 24 hours to prolong light source life). The typical noise level rating is 30dB.

The main differences between the two projector models are in their resolution and projection distance details. The ZX300 is a native 4:3 XGA (1024×768) projector that can display an image up to a 300-inch diagonal. It has a 1.1x manual zoom with a throw ratio of 1.94-2.16:1 (you can use ProjectorCentral’s Optoma ZX300 Projector Throw Distance Calculator to see if it fits in your space).

The 16:10 ZW350 has a native WXGA (1280×800) resolution. The 1.3 manual zoom and 1.18-1.54:1 throw ratio can display a max 301-inch diagonal image (the ProjectorCentral Optoma ZW350 Projector Throw Distance Calculator is also available to check throw distance requirements).

Connections between the two are nearly identical, including two HDMI 1.4a (that support 3D), a VGA, 3.5 mm audio inputs and outputs, a USB Type A for power, RS-232 , and a micro USB for service. The ZW350 adds RJ45 for control via LAN with Crestron, Extron, PJ-Link, or Telnet.

While their cases look slightly different, the two projectors are the same size, measuring 4.82 x 13.27 x 10.43 inches (HWD) and have a net weight of 8.82 pounds, making them easy to move from room to room if necessary.

The Optoma ZX300 and ZW350 are available now for $719 and $799, respectively.
