Installation

The VAVA Chroma is an ultra-short throw projector, and that’s good news for both versatility and installation ease. For a 100” screen you only need 20” of distance, so you can set it up in any size of room without the need for ceiling mounts and other hardware.

There aren’t a ton of alignment options on the Chroma, though the truth is most won’t need them. It does have a horizontal and vertical keystone correction, helpful if you can’t install the projector at the exact right height or angle.

The Chroma has 3 HDMI ports for connecting external content sources. It can also connect wirelessly to both speakers and devices through Bluetooth, though you likely won’t need an external sound source (more on that later).

Image Quality

The VAVA Chroma uses a Texas Instruments XPR display for a true 4K resolution with 8.3 million on-screen pixels. It maintains this clarity at all screen sizes, with an impressive level of detail and realism that lets you truly get immersed in your content. It’s also bright enough to prevent wash out in most situations. Unless your room has a ton of windows, you won’t need blackout curtains to watch during the daytime.

Paired with this display is a 3-channel laser light source. This combination produces a crisp, vibrant image you have to see to believe. Its color gamut exceeds the Rec. 2020 spectrum, with a high dynamic contrast for sharp details and rich black levels.

  • True 4K resolution
  • Exceptional color and contrast
  • Ultra-short throw distance
  • Built-in streaming with Alexa voice control
  • Variety of wired and wireless connection options
  • High sound quality
  • Not suitable for very bright spaces
  • High cost

Smart Features

The integrated smart Android TV system on the VAVA Chroma supports most popular streaming services, including Netflix, which isn’t natively supported on many projector interfaces. Full voice control support through Amazon Alexa lets you control playback and search for content hands-free, and the interface is easy to navigate with the included remote if you’d rather do things the old fashioned way.

Speakers

VAVA Chroma connections

With two 30-watt Harman Kardon speakers and Dolby Audio technology, the Chroma has the volume output and audio quality to rival most standalone soundbars. You’ll get a full low end for sound effects and crisp mid-range for dialogue, everything you need for a cinema-level soundscape.

The Bottom Line: VAVA Chroma Review

If you’re setting up a high-end home theater, picture quality is the number one consideration. The VAVA Chroma definitely delivers on this front. It’s also very user-friendly, with a smooth streaming interface and an ultra-short throw distance that gives it a quick, flexible set-up. This short throw also makes the most of its lamp power, so while it’s not going to do well in super-bright spaces it will do just fine in your living room, even during the daytime.

The only real issue with the VAVA Chroma is its price, and it’s likely outside the budget range for many casual home theater owners. If you have the budget, though, the Chroma is worth the investment, and has the build quality and lamp life to serve you well for years to come. (>>> Check the current price on Vava.com)
